She has three older siblings, Rupa, Bharati and Ajit. She is married to Dr Nene and they have two sons Arin and Ryan.
The actress graduated from Parle College, Mumbai.
She debuted in the film Abodh.
Her first major role was in Tezaab (1988), which launched her career.
Madhuri’s performance in Hum Aapke Hain Koun was the crowning glory of her career.
Her dance sequences accompanying many famous Bollywood songs such as Ek Do Teen (Tezaab), Bada Dukh Dina (Ram Lakhan), Dhak Dhak (Beta), Chane Ke Kheth Mein (Anjaam), Choli Ke Peechche (Khalnayak), Akhiyan Milau (Raja), Piya Ghar Aya (Yaarana), Key Sera (Pukar), Mardala (Devdas) and many others have received abundant critical acclaim.
Her film Devdas attracted worldwide attention and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.
