Shekhar Suman married Alka on May 4, 1984. Their son is Aadhyayan. They sadly lost their elder son Aayush and Shekhar is in the process of constructing a hospital in his son’s name in Patna, Bihar.
Shekhar started his acting career with the TV serial Wah Janab.
He worked in some memorable movies like Shashi Kapoor's Utsav where his leading lady was Rekha, one of the biggest stars in Bollywood.
Shekhar has acted in almost 30 films. He was out of the Indian entertainment scenario for quite a while.
He returned to TV in 1993 as Sameer in Dekh Bhai Dekh, also affectionately called Chachu. This very successful comedy show was aired on Doordarshan in the early 1990s.
The talks shows that Shekhar Suman used to host are Movers and Shakers on the Sony Entertainment Network and Simply Shekhar on Zee Television.
Apart from this, he is one of the judges of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge on Star One along with Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former cricketer.
He had made his debut as a singer in a music album named Kuch Khwaab Aise.
