Kangana Ranaut confesses and reveals why her family irritates her

Kangana Ranaut has for the longest time been called Bollywood's bad girl. It seems almost like a thumb rule – if you have a psychotic character in your film, you don't look beyond Kangana. She played Parveen Babi in Woh Lamhe and then the druggie in Fashion.

TWF correspondent Sreya Basu quizzes her on her films and her love, Adhyayan Suman.

What according to you is the reason behind your films' success?

I don't think I am born talented. Anurag Basu groomed me (during the making of Metro). The process was so smooth that it wasn't until I saw the final print of the film I saw the transformation. Now, simply the words 'lights, camera, sound and action' turn me on. I have become an addict, an acting addict (laughs).

Has the bad girl tag worked for you?

In a way! But it wasn't a conscious decision. There was no scope to refuse the offers (Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Metro, Fashion, Shaka Laka Boom Boom) that came my way. But then again, I guess it's in my nature to try out different, if I may say, daring things. I have always experimented, even when it came to my clothes, right from my school days.

Does your family object to your bold scenes?

Initially my parents did find it uncomfortable. Lately they've come to realise that I'm simply playing out a role and that it's my job to make the character look realistic. But my relatives are irritating. They want me to dance and say my lines for them. And they'll ask me everything about Amitabh, Kareena, Shah Rukh and all the other stars in Bollywood.

What are your roles in Raaz and Kites?

In Raaz, I play a supermodel, yet again. In Kites, I'm a salsa dancer. Raaz is my first horror film and also stars Emraan Hashmi and Adhyayan Suman.

So is it true that Adhyayan and you…

(Interrupts) Yes! Adhyayan and I are seeing each other and we are serious. We aren't thinking of marriage though.

Okay… so who proposed first?

It's too personal. All I can say is Adhyayan is the man of my dreams. I can depend on him for life. I have seen a lot of sorrow; Adhyayan's presence is healing.

Do you share a good relationship with Adhyayan's family?

As far as I know they have no problems with me. And even if they do, Adhyayan knows to sort things out.

What about Aditya Panscholi?

I am at a very comfortable phase of life right now and would not like to discuss my past.

Don't be rude or interrupt others who are having a conversation. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticise, but know where to draw the line. No point putting in personal details or links, we won't publish them. Try and write in English and please, stick to the point!
