Neha: Everyone's wearing a bikini
Former Miss India Neha Dhupia is going unconventional with this week's release Mithya, co-starring Ranvir and Vinay. After a few skin flicks and cameos in multistarrers she seems keen to shift gears. We catch up with the actress to find out more about how her innings in Bollywood is shaping up.
Didn't Ranvir and Vinay chew your brains on the sets?
It was lovely. They didn't trouble me at all. On the contrary, Ranvir and I constantly made life hell for Rajat (Kapoor, the director) with our silly fights. For Rajat, controlling us was like taking charge of two kids on the sets.
Mithya comes across as a black comedy. Does your part add to the laughs?
I add colour to the black humour.
What's your role in the film?
I play a gangster's (Naseeruddin Shah) moll and also romance with the struggling actor Ranvir. But being an aspiring actress herself, she too has her own set of agendas in the plot.
Did you relate to any weird incidents from your own struggle?
One does tend to draw parallels with the reel and real. But my director, Rajat, exactly knew the kind of emotions I had to convey in each scene.
Who did you enjoy romancing more – Ranvir or Naseer?
It was of course easier with Ranvir. With Naseer there is a lot more respect involved. You can't put your arm around him casually. But I have an interesting chemistry with both of them.
Would you say Mithya is an opportunity you were waiting for? If not a dream role you at least got a chance to work in such a talented lot.
With no offence to other filmmakers, I think Mithya is my best film so far. It's a film I will always be proud of on DVD. I will forever cherish this experience.
Is it a conscious decision to be solo in smaller films, while doing multi starrers in the mainstream?
One has to strike a balance by doing all kinds of roles. And you even have to look at the balance in your bank.
My future projects include Singh Is King, another film with Rajat and a movie with Naseer and Paresh Rawal.
