Priyanka: I'll never consult a horoscope for marriage

Priyanka Chopra is glowing with all the critical acclaim Kaminey has received. But that's past and the girl has moved onto promoting her next. At the music launch of Ashutosh Gowariker's romantic comedy What's Your Raashee, we spent a few minutes with sexy Priyanka Chopra.

How did you go about playing 12 different characters in this film?

It’s actually like doing 12 different films in one. Each character has distinct mannerisms, body language and accent. And my challenge was to convey 12 distinct emotions in a limited time. Unlike other films where your character develops over three hours, here I had only 10 minutes for each. Also all girls are of the same age group – yet so different in their own way. So in that sense it is my toughest film till date. I am breaking Sanjeev Kumar and Kamal Haasan's record. Just kidding.

Which was the toughest and easiest star sign respectively?

Capricorn was toughest, as the girl has a very complex story and I have to play a 15-year-old. The South Africa returned Aquarian was the easiest, as she is a lot like me. But all the girls are from different Gujarati backgrounds. I had just finished a crash course in Marathi ( for Kaminey) and from there I was immediately put on to Gujarati. This film is the ultimate test for an actor.

You are a Cancerian, but in the rushes just shown, she is a very serious character. Didn’t you ask Ashutosh for a happier Cancerian girl?

In fact the film does not typecast any particular star sign as happy or serious. All girls have their own story and the star signs have only been used to identify some of their personality traits. I think it is a very progressive film because Harman eventually doesn't make his decision based on star signs. It’s just because he is pressed for time, out of 100 plus girls he decides to meet only 12. One of each star sign. He doesn't stick only to compatible signs based on popular conventions.

Do you enjoy doing films with different accents and mannerisms?

(Laughs) Yes, I will do one role from each state of India. I will be a pan-Indian star. See I like doing different things. Sometime my experiments even bomb big time. But then each film need not be author backed like a Fashion. You know in Kaminey I had just eight scenes and yet it has made such a big impact. Two of my three toughest films have released (Fashion and Kaminey) and I hope this one is equally appreciated.

How are you shaping up so well as an actress?

I am no acting guru. Nor have I gone to film school. So each day on the set is like attending a class. And everyday I am learning. It’s just been five years in this industry. But my effort is to make sure audiences forget the Priyanka of my last release when a new one opens. And in Raashee I have to do that 12 times over.
