Subhash Ghai has always been known as the original showman. Most people presume this title was conferred on him because of his exuberant personality and flashy lifestyle. The real reason is quite,quite different.
Subhash Ghai is a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), but his specialization was not direction. Ghai originally wanted to become an actor. After he obtained his degree Ghai moved to Mumbai. But by this time he had decided to focus on direction. Apparently, it was a smart move. Try as we might it is a little difficult to visualize Ghai running around the trees singing his heart out. But as a director his first film Kalicharan was a smash hit. Apparently he received this film on the personal recommendation of Shatrughan Sinha who was a star of that era.
