'I might have to do B'wood to survive'
Welcome to Buzz18.com. We're here at the Oberoi Mall in Mumbai and we're about to meet the Bulla Ki Jana singer – Rabbi Shergill. After a gap of three years he has come out with his second album called Avengi Ja Nahin and he's right here with us. So let's have a chat with him about where he's been and what he's been up to for the past three years.
Buzz18.com: Hi Rabbi, how are you today?
Rabbi: Feeling like I've been on an endless roller-coaster ride for the past five-six hours. We've just done a lot of radio, moving from one place to the next. Right now I'm feeling a little physically spent. Otherwise yeah, everything is "spirits up."
Buzz18.com: So Rabbi you've been underground for the last three years. Can you tell us what exactly you've been up to?
Rabbi: Lots of things. I read some books, travelled all over the place and was producing this album. Then I produced Delhi Heights, after which I did the usual shows, went on holidays – endless amounts of holidays and endless amounts of books and just saw the world!
Buzz18.com: What kind of experiences have you had and what did you learn?
Rabbi: Experiences and learning? My goodness... the past three years??? Uh... well I learned that change is constant, live in the moment, embrace the present and forget about time and calendars.
Buzz18.com: Considering the amount of success you've had with your first album, any other singer would have probably banked on that kind of success. How come you decided to stay low key on that front and took your time?
Rabbi: I do this because I love this. I don't do this because I really need to become busy, or prove a point. I have to prove no point. What I really want to do is figure out if there are enough songs that I want to put out there. It has to come from within. I need to take my time, I need to do things that I enjoy because that's what gives me my music. I am only as good as the experiences I've had and I want to have real experiences. I don't want to sit in a studio and do assembly line work for some film director or producer and keep out churning empty hits. It was never about that for me.
