Ice Age 3 becomes biggest animation film in India!
With a weekend collection of Rs 2.2 crore on just 60 prints, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has got the highest opening for any animation film in India, beating the 2005 superhit Hanuman, which had an opening of Rs 1.5 crore on 150 prints.
Fox Star Studios India's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is undoubtedly the 'coolest' hit of the year as it has captured the imaginations of young and old alike.
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios India, said, "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has managed to get one of the highest openings for an animated film in India even though it has released with the hugely hyped Kambakkht Ishq; it has performed even better than Hanuman. The exceptional 3D effects in the film are a must see and create a fabulous movie-watching experience of audiences. Indian audiences are becoming very discerning and are driven by the right content."
The previous highest weekend collections for a Hollywood film were for Shrek 3, which had collected Rs 1.3 crore. The biggest animated film in India, Hanuman had grossed around Rs 1.5 crore in its initial weekend. The sequel to Hanuman released in 2007 had an opening of just Rs 1.2 crore in its initial weekend.
"3D is a huge draw and there are a lot more 3D films releasing and the exhibitors need to gear up for this so as to make the 3D films accessible to a larger cross section of the public so that they can enjoy the movie the way it should," added Vijay Singh.
Swaroop Reddy, Sathyam Cinemas Chennai (where the film is playing in 3D Digital), said, "The demand for the movie is phenomenal. All shows till now from Friday have been full in advance just minutes after opening the advance booking. The demand is nothing less than a Bollywood blockbuster."
