REVIEW: 'Go' without any expectation
What's the movie about
Remember Ram Gopal Varma's Sanjay Dutt-Urmila starrer Daud - the run, and 'fun' on the run? Well, Go too dwells on similar lines where the hero and the heroine of the film, Abhay (newcomer Gautam) and Vasu (Nisha Kothari) elope. Little do they realise that they are about to confront a bunch of wacky characters including a rogue cop (Kay Kay Menon) a funny conman ( Rajpal Yadav) a pony-tailed killer and a corrupt chief minister, who kills his deputy.
While Abhay and Vasu try to escape from their tyrant parents, every other person they meet seem to be after them either for money or for the tape that Vasu incidentally picks up, without knowing that it contained the secret of deputy chief minister's murder recorded. As the stakes gets higher and the chase begins, it's up to Abhay to save the day.
What we liked
Directed by Manish Shrivastava, Go has a racy storyline that constantly collides with heady action, the plot is replete with funny dialogues and mimicry by Rajpal Yadav, who is just brilliant in the film. Credit goes to Kay Kay Menon as well to add sufficient spice to the otherwise no-so-original storyline. The dialogues are above average at times. The film sure has many comic sequences, which remind us of Pridarshan's Hungama, Malamaal Weekly and so on.
What we didn't like
The music of the film is a complete disaster with a number of scary tracks like Oooooh and Dhan Tan Tan. (Audiences are requested not to take it too seriously). We wonder whether Ram Gopal Varma had actually heard the tracks before the film’s release. Among the starcast, Gautam is good in few sequences. There are oodles of skin-show by Nisha Kothari. (Wish the actress paid a little bit attention on her acting skills as well). The others fall in and out without much role to talk about.
We recommend
The film has nothing original. But despite many loopholes, one can try watching it once for sheer love of comedy.
Verdict: 1.5/ 5
