'I don't mind Amitabh-Rekha working together'

Jaya Bachchan's startling confession

Jaya Bachchan is often known for her sharp tongue and a sharper in-your-face attitude. In an interview with People Magazine, she bared her heart about what she exactly thinks about the Amitabh-Rekha romance, SRK, family values, Raj Thackeray and more. Read on...

On Amitabh and his alleged romance with Rekha

Marriages seem to be falling apart these days. How can you keep a man faithful to you for so long, that too such a desirable man?

By just leaving him alone. You must not get too possessive. You can either drive the artist crazy, or help him grow. And if he goes, he was never yours! (Smiles)

But surely all those rumours about affairs must disturb…

(Thinks) You are a human being, you do react. If you react to negativity, you also react to positivity. You are reassured every second by gestures, by looks, by happenings, and that keeps you going. (Thinks more.) A human being at a very vulnerable age and time gets carried away either ways, and if you are sad you are sad, and if you are happy you are happy.

Once and for all: Is there any truth about the affair with Rekha?

If there was any, he would have been somewhere else, na? People liked them as a couple on screen, and that's fine. The media tried linking him with every one of his heroines. My life would have been hell if I had taken it all seriously. We are made of sterner stuff.

Would you mind if they worked together again?

No, why should I mind? But I feel it will be more like a sensation than actual work. And that's a pity because one will miss the opportunity of seeing them together. Both of them probably realise it will go beyond work.

On the Gandhis

There were reports that Sonia Gandhi was concerned about the MNS tirade against you.

I don't know. I suppose being the leader of the party that governs this state, she may have inquired.

Don't you think for emotional reasons, the Gandhi and the Bachchan family should get friendly again?

Well, if you speak of emotions, then one should ask, 'Did it (the break-up) have to happen in the first place?'

chemistry together and the public liked there presences
onscreen more. And about slapping salman " let he who
has never sinned cast the first stone"

Indian4life, i agree exactly with your words but disagree in
only one respect. The bachchan family speak in one voice.
What she said is the view of them all, the two men just
issue hollow apologies that are not sincere. It's like
administering foul medicine and offering a bit of sugar
afterwards - it all helps with the medicine going down.
the bachchans have pulled out all the stops to make drona
a hit but without success this time. The will resort to any
means to keep their names in the lime-light during the
period of it's release hoping against hope.
the news channels are regaling the indian audiences of
jaya's words of wisdom and people are aghast at this new
level of attack. Mr. Bachchan senior, perhaps not expecting
the kind of response it has had, now has to resorts to
seeking sympathy by feigning ill-ness, which the press also
gets to know about.
will the bachchans ever do anything without telling the
press and seeking mileage from every little event in their
lives.
they should get comfort out of the fact that whilst their
precious son's film has had a bashing by the critics, the
media is not going to town about his lack of success and
"dwindling" career that they save for others less
powerful than the bachchans. Guru scored because of the
"engagement", sarker raj benefited massively from
the supposed coup of having 3 bachchans in one movie. No
more gimmicks left apart from the baby stories! But a baby
won't materialize in the near future - not until the
aishwariya factor has helped to consolidate junior
bachchan's career. At least that is what they are hoping.

She's so incoherent and mean. Incoherent because what the
heck does "if we could have invited him, we would have
changed the date" mean? Mean because - well, she speaks
of slapping srk. Slap her! And ibnlive better not consider
this comment "rude" because if she can talk of
slapping srk, i can talk of slapping her. I am older than
her.

Jaya bachchan needs to control her temper and her words.
Poor bachchanjee is still reeling from his public apologies
on her behalf when she didn't bother to offer any. Even
abhishek had to step in and clear her stance in print. Now
jayajee has put her foot in her mouth once more. What does
she want? The men to continue apologizing in print.
she herself belittled one woman, cast aspersions on
karishma's character and morals and wants to slaps a 40+
grown up man srk for allegedly belittling another as the
latter happens to be her d-i-l. Jayajee needs to read her
husband's blog on good deeds/words and bad intentions and
take notes from him. Hyprocrisy however refined and
disguised in diplomatic prose does not lose itz stench. What
really gets my blood boiling is jayajee actually broadcasted
to the whole world that srk deserved a slap and she wanted
to slap him. I have never read of anyone publicly
humiliating another with such niceties under the guise of
maternal love.
no loving parent slaps a grown up adult child, it is sheer
humiliation. They may argue with their children, yell at
each other or walk away from an argument in a fit of rage
but physical punishment is not acceptable beyond a certain
age. It just does not happen.
a mother may reprimand/slap her minor/adolescent/teen
child in private only when words fall on deaf ears... Even
then she does not want her neighbors or friends to know
about it, let alone proclaim it to the whole world in print.
This onscreen mother hit upon the golden chance to vent her
pent up anger and get even with srk over whatever
issues/grudges she held and shamelessly humiliated him. She
articulated her response in reply to the news article that
claimed srk called her during the mns incident becuz he
considered her like his mother. In answer she sugarcoats her
maternal love in typical filmy style and claims he deserves
to be slapped. Talk of hidden agendas. What is srk supposed
to do? Turn his cheek for more. It is tantamount to adding
insult to injury.

What does she mean by values ?? Karishma has no values ???
She is much better than ur fake bahu ash !! While u endured
an extra-marital affair..U think ash will accept the same ?
She already had two break-ups ...What values is she talking
about ?
the whole bachchan cannot come with a single decent
flick..But still they are always in news for all extra
reasons..And behave as royalty...
this family is getting on everyones nerves...Please go and
make some good movie..

Wow very honest interview , three cheers for jaya ji , u
are great , we wish you and your family all the best .

krishh Oct 10, 2008 at 07:50 PM

That was a really great interview. I really respect jayaji.
She is a women of her words. She knows what to speak and
never minces words with sarcasm. i appreciate the way she
responded on kapoors. It is very clear from it that karishma
got her values from her mother and those values strained the
relationship between 2 families. srk may had given interview
to filmfare saying that his involvement in salman-ash
private matters ruined his relationship with ash, but i just
want to ask him that if he is so sorry then why not go to
ash and apologise personally. Any dignified person will not
like to keep a realtion with a person who because of his
false ego tried to ruined her career by throwing her out
from his movies and influencing others to do same.
