INSTANT GYAN: It's Breaking News
The one question Koel Purie always has to field from journalists is, "Why didn't you choose to become a journalist like your father Aroon Purie?" Much as she must be tired of answering this one, Koel now dons the mantle of a crime reporter in this week's release It's Breaking News.
Directed by Vishal Inamdar and produced by Shreyas Mhaskar, It's Breaking News is the maiden venture of Anima Films and promises to 'uncover the darker side of sting operations'.
Koel plays Vidya, a young, dynamic, self-motivated news correspondent cum TV reporter who is handling the entertainment beat. This is her first job out of journalism school and she is quite happy. Until circumstances change and she has to take on the dreaded 'crime' beat.
Initially bored and frustrated with the change, Vidya soon learns the tricks of the trade and enjoys the thrill of crime reporting. She becomes an ace at turning situations around or creating them in order to provide sensational news to boost the TRPs of her channel.
But Vidya wakes up to reality when one day she gets a call from Sangeeta from Pune, played by Swati Sen, a graduate from the FTII. Sangeeta is a victim of repeated sexual abuse at the hands of Pune's big-shot police officers and wants their actions to be exposed.
Vidya plans a sting operation for the exposé. But she along with her cameraman Rafiq (played by Atul Parchure) is disgusted at not being able to help Sangeeta during the operation.
After she exposes the police official, Vidya is rejected by the same corrupt system she's a part of. Dejected and heartbroken Vidya almost gives up on the case, but fights back, and decides to help the victim.
Watch the movie to find out if Vidya succeeds in her battle for justice.
The cast includes Koel Purie, Swati Sen, Atul Parchure, Harsh Chaya, Vinay Apte, Vandana Gupte, Virendra Saxena, Shishir Sharma, Nandita Puri, Abhimanyu Singh, Tanushree, Anita Wahi, Dhananjay Mandrekar, Vijay Patwardhan and Rahul Vohra.
