TZP fails to get an Oscar nomination
India's pride, musician AR Rahman may have just scored a Golden Globe but India's Aamir Khan starrer Taare Zameen Par has not been that lucky at the 81st Academy Awards.
The much touted and acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, directed by Aamir Khan has failed to make it to the nine films shortlisted in the foreign language film category.
The nine films, selected from among the 65 that had originally qualified, will now go for the next round of voting.
Selection committees in New York and Los Angeles will then pick five nominees from among them. The winner will be declared on the February 22.
The nine shortlisted films include French Cannes winner The Class and Golden globe winner Waltz with Bashir from Israel.
This has certainly come as a disappointment to millions of fans and film industry people who had hoped that the simple film about a boy and his teacher would make it to the grand show of Oscars finale at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center.
Taare Zameen Par is about a child's battle with dyslexia and a sensitive teacher's deft handling to bring the boy into social mainstream.
After nominations for celebrated Indian classics like Mother india, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan in the past, Indians had pinned their hopes on Taare Zameen Par, a joint effort of writer Amol Gupte and director actor Aamir Khan.
Sadly, as the show will be beamed across 200 countries live by the ABC Television Network, there will be no Indian voice in the Foreign languages category.

I agree with u priya but we know the history but children
are the mistry
Ohh!
kaash tzp koi hollywood wala banaya hota. Slumdog
millionaire ke place par tzp ko mila hota. I think tzp is
most inspiring film for modern zen parents not for indians
only for whole world.
udher bhi politics chalta hai bhai. :)
Personally felt it didnt deserve ...Any way.....Its just
not oscar material.... Indians would applaud as its the
first kind they are watching...They should have sent jodha
akbar..It atleast had the chance for its grandiuer and
portrayal of communal harmony in these days of
differences....
or the best choice should have been a regional movie..We
do forget that there are very good movies in our own
regional belt which gets overshadowed among the popular
cinema
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is worst news
As aamir khan was too high for the success of his average
film gajini, this shock was very much needed to bring him
down. How much did aamir khan paind you for not giving much
hype to this news report.
Now will aamir khan question the credibility of oscar awards
like he question the credibility of other award functions in
india including the prestigious filmfare awards ? First
aamir khan should learn to respect the awards given by his
own country.
It was a silly movie anyway..Good that it didnt get an
award.Lets not diss oscars and prove ourselves losers.
If america gives a prize to tzp, it will add another
success to the movie but if it is not, that is not take
even inch of its great success allover the world. & we
know that oscar is ruled by dirty politics not by great art
Many of the oscar awards goes to substandard films. Those
film even don't have the matter, which the committee
says it has. No films in the world can be compared to indain
films.The.Oscar selection committee itself is a fraud one.
There is nothing important in getting an award from such
selections. Tzp is a great film, we all know that. We
don't want any award from such a bad and unlawful
country. Besides oscar is not the international award...It
is just an award given by america..
so say "no" to worries...
