MUST WATCH: Om Shanti Om on VCD
If you thought Om Shanti Om [Watch the trailer] was funny, chances are that you'll find the subtitles funnier. One isn't quite sure if the joke in this case is intended but then again what the hell?
Months after the release of 2007's biggest blockbuster film, Om Shanti Om, Eros has brought out a VCD of the film. And quite like the film itself, its home video is directed at the masses.
So there are no extra scenes, no interviews, no behind the scenes extra features in this one. In fact, they have even given the DVD version a pass. Priced at Rs 149, the VCD of Om Shanti Om is not only affordable but also much awaited. [IN PICS: Farah Khan takes on Bhansali]
The only 'extra feature' in that sense are the English subtitles that run through the film… including the songs. If you have watched OSO in the theatres and want to watch it again, the thing to look out for is the ingenuity behind these subtitles. Sample this: Kaise naino se nain milaau becomes How do I look into your eyes, tell me how and better still Dard-E-Disco becomes My heart is full of the pain of disco. [CHECK OUT: The song that India grooved to]
Of course before this mad saga begins one has to endure a two-minute promotional video of Eros multimedia. Now you could either give it a skip or sit through it and learn about the phenomenal progress the company has made in the last three decades. [MUST SEE: Candid moments at OSO music launch]
For those who have come in late, Om Shanti Om tells the story of Om Prakash Makhija, a junior artiste in the 70s who falls in love with the reigning star, Shantipriya. By a strange twist of fate, Om and Shanti are killed. But 30 years later, Om gets reborn as superstar Om Kapoor. [IN PICS: London says Om Shani Om]

It is a lousy movie and srk looks awful
What a silly review! They have not given the dvd a
"pass"...All dvds come out some time after the
release of the vcds. The dvd, is in fact, on its way.
secondly, no vcds of hindi films have any special
features. So this is not some terrible thing oso has done,
but is in fact the norm. The special features are only on
the dvds.
and you cannot possibly begin to comment on the subtitles
of hindi songs. And quite frankly, the naino
se...Translation is quite apt.
so, don't write pretentiously and hope that it be
recognized as sense.
