REVIEW: A long but thrilling RACE
Watching an Abbas-Mustan film is always a gamble. You can expect the director duo to deliver anything from a classic mystery to downright nonsense. After a spate of no-shows like Naqaab and 36 China Town, the men in white are looking to redeem themselves with this week's biggie Race. And yes they do make a respectable comeback. But despite having some electrifying moments, the film falls short of being a perfect thriller. Why? Read on.
Race is a tale of two brothers, Ranveer (Saif Ali Khan) and Rajveer Singh (Akshaye Khanna). Ranveer is a high profile bookie on the South African horse racing circuit while Rajveer is a lazy, alcoholic who is just blowing away his brother's monies. When Ranveer discovers that he and Rajveer love the same woman, the former decides to step back like a good sacrificing brother. But the girl in question – Sonia (Bipasha Basu) is a lady with a mysterious past. Ranveer on the other hand finds a shoulder to cry on in Sophie – his attractive secretary. The sudden death of one of the brothers opens a can of worms as everyone has their eyes on a $100 million life insurance policy. Enter Inspector RD and Mini (Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy who go about unraveling the mystery behind the death. The plot thickens as RD has his own agenda, that goes beyond the case investigation.
