REVIEW: A Wednesday is worth it
Well, it could have been any day of the week, but it is about a Wednesday, and a significant Wednesday at that. Prakash Rathod (Anupam Kher), the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai receives a phone call asking him to release four militants. The caller (Naseeruddin Shah) threatens him saying if he took his call lightly, he would be responsible for a series of bomb blasts in the city. But if he listens to him, many innocent lives would be saved and the caller would also reveal where he had planted the bombs.
Rathod suspects it to be a crank call, but is forced to change his opinion when his men find a bomb at the police station right in front of the headquarters. It is then that the Chief Minister orders Rathod to tackle this critical situation. While trying to trace the caller, he meets a reporter from a news channel - Naina Roy, played by Deepal Shaw, who has also been tipped off by the same anonymous caller. Two of Rathod's best men, Arif (Jimmy Shergill) and Jai (Aamir Bashir) also chip in to trail the caller.
A cat and mouse game begins…
Memorable scenes:
A scene, where Rathod's men frantically try to locate the caller while Naseeruddin enjoys his homemade sandwiches, is funny indeed. Or the last scene where Rathod introduces himself to the "stupid common man" and shakes hand is remarkable. But we shall come to this "stupid common man" later.
As one might be deceived by the promos, A Wednesday, directed by Neeraj Pandey, has nothing to do with the 2006 train explosions, and is not another Mumbai Meri Jaan. But it wouldn't be entirely wrong if we call it a sequel to Mumbai Meri Jaan of sorts. Of course, terrorism is the backdrop here, but A Wednesday is more about the current state of affairs and the power of the common man.

For any movie having niche ppl like nasir n anupam....Its
obvious tht audience wud get a movie worth watching.....So
such reviews were expected out of dis amazing movie...Really
nice...
Fantastic movie of the year.
Mistake, it was miss jaya biswas( and not my naseer and mr
anupam, who are ofcourse the actors
). Silly me
Firstly, i loved the movie. Its high density, engaging and
punch(in all sense of the word) filled film.
i comment here only to dispense my displeasure at the
review and of course the reviewer(s). If u are reviewing a
movie and you like it too, its always advisable to not give
away the strongest point in the movie. Especially, you guys
because your write up is on buzz18.
so its my sincere request to mr naseer and mr anupam to
take care of what you reveal the next time you review.
so much said, i always look forward to your reviews every
friday afternoon. Thanks
