REVIEW: Aggar loses the plot
What's it about
When you step inside the cinema to watch a film like Aggar, you pretty much know what to expect. Betrayal, murder and lots of lust to spice up the plot.
The film opens with a mentally unstable criminal Aryan (Tusshar Kapoor) who is accused of murdering his girlfriend for cheating on him. Aryan happens to meet a psychiatrist named Dr Aditya Merchant (Shreyas Talpade) who is convinced Aryan deserves a second chance and gets him out of the asylum. The doctor, though, has issues of his own with his glamorous but suspicious wife, Jahnvi (Udita Goswami in awful costumes).
For a large part of the first half, the film hops between two parallel tracks giving an episodic feel to the viewer. The tracks merge when Aryan bags a job in Jahnvi's agency. Sparks fly and the two have an affair, not knowing about each other's relationship with Aditya.
A guilty Jahnvi decides to call it quits and start afresh with Aditya. Aryan can't take this and starts stalking the couple. How they all deal with the murky situation forms the rest of the plot. There is also a sudden suspense element thrown in towards the climax.
What we liked
The otherwise slow film picks up pace post interval. Also, the twist in the climax is pretty interesting and catches the viewer unaware. But once the mystery is out the film loses it again.
What we didn't like
The young actors are given mature characters and their discomfort is evident. Shreyas and Tusshar especially should stick to light-hearted roles.
The film looks very dull and the music is also nothing to write home about. In fact, this kind of a film desperately needed Emraan Hashmi and his trademark songs.
We recommend
Watch it only if films like Red, Naqaab, Train and Aksar are your cup of tea.
Rating: Two out of five
