REVIEW: Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge - 2/5

In this funny film, the B'wood insider jokes continue

It is tricky to judge a Hindi film, which is an out-an-out remake of a Hollywood film – if you've seen the Hollywood one, that is. But if you haven't, you tend to go with an open mind. And so did I for Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge, a remake of The Producers (starring Uma Thurman, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane).

All I knew about it was that it's a spoof on Bollywood's ways. Well, we've heard that one before. A recent one was Luck By Chance, although it was not a comedy.

Dhoondte… opens with funnyman Paresh Rawal who plays the character of Raj Chopra, a film producer who fakes a suicide in order to get away from his creditors. Just the mention of a few producers in this scene, including Ronnie Screwvala who is also Dhoondte...'s producer, generated the first few laughs and the film looked promising.

So, this Raj Chopra has to basically catch hold of superstar Aryan Kapoor (Sonu Sood), and only then will his financiers let go of him. Raj's struggle to convince Aryan begins, and in the process his character as a miserly, 'chindhi' producer is established. Paresh Rawal excels as usual and almost carries the film on his shoulders.

In between, the characters of Kunal Khemu (Anand Pawar) and Soha Ali Khan (Neha Chattopadhyay) enter the screen space. Anand is a loser of a chartered accountant, always chucking jobs for ethical issues, while Neha is a Bengali theatre actress trying to make her way in to Bollywood with the help of her maternal uncle, a theatre director. And so the two strugglers who are also neighbours have a thing going between them.

By now we know the film is funny without being too loud.

about the producers.

Sweta, u missed one big glaring point here...The movie looks
like a rip off from mel brooks's hot broadway musical called
the producers. Instead of summertime with hitler here there
is ashraf...But overall idea is hugely no no mostly borrowed
errr copied from the producers.

Don't be rude or interrupt others who are having a conversation. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticise, but know where to draw the line. No point putting in personal details or links, we won't publish them. Try and write in English and please, stick to the point!
