REVIEW: Goal? Naaaaah!
Training sessions are generally the most memorable portions of sports films. Here, they lack punch. The motivational speeches resemble a bad '70s flick or one of those saas bahu sagas where everyone says
complicated, funny, filmi lines about honour and pride - the kind OSO spoofed so well.
None of the 'strategies' shown in the film have any logic and have little to do with real life sport. It's more about drama than planning.
The football matches are just happening in the background without actually involving the viewer; you don't even realise when the underdogs win, can you beat that? Once the director runs out of sports film cliches, he incorporates unnecessary item songs, sub plots, comedy tracks, senseless speeches
and melodramatic confrontations.
None of the actors except Arshad - who gets the maximum footage - have well-defined roles; they go through the motions. Bipasha Basu, the physio, is cast in a thankless part and only does two things: smile, and hit on John. She has lines like: "Take me on a date, I am not mad but very sexy." John, the star attraction, does little more than bend the ball in Reebok gear.
All the actors screech at the top of their voices and can compete for the ham of the year award. But then, given some of the most inane lines and bizarre situations, one guesses they try their best to make sense of the material.
We recommend:
You watch some real sport at home instead of this fake, melodramatic mish-mash.

I don't agree to this 1/5 review.
it's just an individual thinking ...If they didn't like
the film then they have no right to stop someone else from
watchin it ...
the movie is all fighting for the respect of your
country...Songs are nice ...Actors are good what else do u
need.
i loved it and i will keep watching movie like these in
future as well....
Crap movie..Utter bullshit.
even mohun bagan vs east bengal is more engrossing and
realistic.
i don't know what sort of contract is john on in the
movie.Alternating clubs like buses.
however john worshippers and football wannabes won't have
any problem with that and they would love the movie. Coz he
is at his dummy best. The perennial confused expression
prevails on his face and is sometimes replaced by a
"trying to look suave" grin ( while mocking at
arshad)
hey reviewer...Can't you just label some movie
"disgusting" instead of giving this 1 /5 thing?
utter useless romantic sequences that force everyone into
thinking whether its a spoof on some holly flick.
have money to waste? Then grab a ticket and watch it.
else wait for the dvd version and watch it while fast
forwarding
"goal" is enjoyable and heart-warming. Ignore the
reviews, go see it. John is fab, arshad and bomman are good.
Nice mix of sports and human emotions.
Complete waste of time.Even a derby county vs wigan athletic
game would have been better. The film has everything but
football.
This web site belongs to n18 and the reviewer is biased
against utv. The movie is good. These media people are
removing people's faith. It does not deserve a 1/5
rating. I bet welcome (distributed by n18) already got a 3
to 5 rating even without the reviewer seeing the movie.
pathetic review. Please fire the reviewer.
I think we can low rating for all utv movies from network 18
and high rating for all network 18 movies :-) it deserves a
better rating at 1/5. Give me a break.
