REVIEW: Jannat is boring as hell!
As children our parents would promise to tell us one story before we went to bed. So every night we'd beg them to tell us a really long story.
But what would start as a fascinating tale of kings and knights would end up becoming so banal and boring that one of us would either just ask them to stop or just fall asleep.
Debutant director Kunal Deshmukh's Jannat is a classic example of this kind of storytelling. For those who haven't been able to figure out the story of this film from its hoarding here goes:
Story
Arjun Dikshit (Emraan Hashmi), a compulsive gambler finds himself in trouble once every other day with the loan sharks. One fine day he sees Zoya (Sonal Chauhan), a call center executive eyeing a beautiful diamond ring. A bit of a Casanova, Arjun spends the last of his money and buys it for her.
Somewhere along the way, he realises he is so good at predicting cricket matches that could well make a living out of it. By now he is in love with Zoya and so he impresses her with his singing and driving abilities just like Rajesh Khanna did in Aradhana. That is not to mention the expensive gifts he buys for her every other day, while exercising his vocal chords simultaneously.
About a couple of songs later, he finds himself in Cape Town. He graduates from betting to fixing matches for an underworld don.
Zoya, of course, is under the impression that his 'import-export' business has suddenly flourished. So she's quite happy, (though not quite because she can't spend as much time with him anymore) till a CBI Inspector tells her the truth.

The music was good but the movie not so
Good music . Decent direction. With a bad screen play. N
over hyped movie.
Seriously, i started crying at the end. I think the movie's
excellent when it comes to emotions and reality behind
hidden things. Keep on going emraan. May u hav success in ur
career........
The movie sux! Pathetic! Music is good though.
Dude, you seem to like no movie that the audiences like.
Your criticisms are highly amateurish and subjective to your
own opinion. Filmmakers always toil with balancing a movie
for a larger audience appeal and when they can appreciate
the mass taste why can't you? Your review are more one
dimensional unlike the movies you criticize. Agreed your
bread butter runs on running celebrities down but come on
that was a tactic of the past and besides everyone does it.
Instead of raising the bar on bashing raise the bar on the
quality of your review and get it right. I work as an
assistant in ad films and understand the huge gap between
what a creative person would ideally want and what the
people from the business and the audiences may like. I am
just 23 and i have grown up to this reality so i suggest you
do to. As for the movie it was a good balance of
entertainment and drama. I liked the fact the filmmakers
gave us the nuances of the betting and fixing scenario but
yet did not make it as dry a "news report". I
watch hindi movies for entertainment and i must say i did
quite enjoy myslef in jannat.
p.S. The way you seem to approach your film reviews if it
was for people your way bollywood not have it's
uniqueness with songs interspersed in the film. I'm
sure a pseudo like you would love to have those removed too
to suit your wannabe hollywood pallet.
This movie was very good, especially the climax
sequences.....I am sure the reviewer must have gone to the
movie with his partner and coyed with her instead of
watching the movie.........The acting department, especially
by emraan, the police officer and emraan's best buddy,
is awesome.....I strongly recommend watching this
movie..........
Dude..Ur reviews suck.....................U dont know whats
good cinema...Infact u look low on life when u write such a
review...Either u were asleep when u watched the movie or
its some kind of personal vengance against hashmi....I am
not a big fan of his work....Neither had i previously seen
any of his movies in theatre but i went to watch this movie
becoz of my frinds birthday and dude i wasn't
disaapointed......Imran hashmi has out done his self...Dude
box-office collections for the movie will remind u to change
ur profession...I promise to never read ur reviews again...U
wasted my time..
