REVIEW: Kal Kissne Dekha
Small town lad flips for an arrogant, big city babe. After a few fights, boy saves girl's life - and a few songs later the two fall in love. We won't blame you if this reminds you of a dozen odd campus love stories made through the 90s. Because that's, exactly what this film is.
The first half of Jackky Bhagnani (resembling Uday Chopra) and Vyshalee Desai's debut film Kal Kissne Dekha is a rehash of several launch pads, right from Betaab to Barsaat. The makers have packaged an age-old formula of teenage romance, laced with romantic songs and predictable situations.
But despite its run-of-the-mill sequences, Kal Kissne Dekha has an entertaining start. And most of it is thanks to confident performances from the leading pair. Especially Jackky Bhagnani; who appeals with his simplicity and endearing presence. He is no Hrithik Roshan and thankfully doesn't try to be one till the interval. Vyshalee looks very attractive on screen but doesn't have much of a role to work around. She carries off the skimpiest of outfits with grace and is extremely photogenic.
| JANTA VERDICT: Kal Kissne Dekha |
It's in the second half where the problems begin. Our hero discovers his power to see the future. And in no time he sets out on a mission to save the city from disaster. His mentor is a crazy scientist who misuses the boy's vision. Here the film takes a Spiderman-2sque turn with its 'beauty and the geek' meets 'sci-fi' approach. Jackky's rawness and immaturity work against him in the film's action sequences. Also the writer-director doesn't bother to explain the source of Jackky's power.
Rakesh Roshan's sci-fi pot boilers might be low on logic but score big on conviction. Without taking his audiences for granted, Roshan made us believe that a Jaadu can exist.

Saw it first day first show, thanks to my bollywood crazy
friends, and now that i’ve seen it, i am taking my parents
for the movie tomorrow, really good stuff, nice to see
fresh, and yet, extremely entertaining cinema.
