REVIEW: Oh, My God!!
If Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan decide to give away the Nariyal Awards yet again this year, they should include a new category – for path breaking camera work. We have no doubt that Oh, My God!! (don't miss the punctuations) will win the award hands down. It's the kind of film that will make Deshdrohi and Gumnaam, the Mystry look like classics.
With camera angles and shots that put all the saas-bahu serials to shame, Oh, My God!! tells the story of Rajendra (Vinay Pathak) a salesman who dreams of becoming Dhirubhai Ambani. So even though he has a fairly cushioned job in an investment firm, Rajendra wants to earn a quick buck… though by absolutely fair means.
He carries with him brochures of a scheme that he believes will change his (and his investors') fortunes forever. The hitch? There's no one interested in investing in it, except his boss (Harsh Chayya) who mysteriously appears and disappears from the screenplay.
Rajendra's sweet but frustrated wife Suman (Divya Dutta) begs before god to change their fortunes and god (Saurabh Shukla) obliges. Thus begins a series of events where god tries his best to make Rajendra rich but with little success. These events are supposed to make you giggle, laugh and then contemplate about life, family and the works.
Nonetheless, when Rajendra does finally get the one thing he's been dreaming of, he has no idea of what to do. The rest of the film revolves around how Rajendra comes to terms with his obsession.
Oh, My God!! (OMG) is a film that bases itself on the premise 'be careful of what you wish for, lest it comes true'. Now, it's not a theme that hasn't been explored before. Bruce Almighty is just one of the many films that come to mind when you think of this genre. Yet OMG, quite unlike Bruce Almighty, refuses to entertain and ends up being such a drab, you feel like throwing eggs at the screen.
It's 1 hour 45 minutes of pure and unadulterated trash. Watching out of focus shots, jump cuts (that are supposed to be deliberate but don't look that way), poor lighting and miserable frames make all those daily soap opera directors look like Alfred Hitchcock.
What's worse is that the film is so slow the 62-hour-long news coverage of the hostage drama in Mumbai seems more gripping. Cinema derives inspiration from life itself. In it, films/art ought to be more engaging and not reality.

My dear abhishek,
i am a small time film critic myself. And i know it's gr8
fun to do that. But you know what else i am. I am a
struggler and an amateur film-maker too. And this kind of
arrogance is really unacceptable.
try making a film, or better still, write one. And then
attempt to make one. I'm all for calling a spade a spade,
but this kind of vengeance is really uncalled for!!!
Abhishek mande
stop reviewing films seriously, horrible and atmost
misleading review.
Ok
How can an insensitive person like u abhishek can be given a
responsibilty to review films...Im sure u must be really
sick in ur mind to even comment on the attacks in such a
manner...I think u shud be ashamed of urself n jus step down
from being a critic...N if u want more drama visit the ppl
who ve lost their dear ones in the attacks...Mebbe ull get
more masala to write in ur next review .
n the minute i read ur review i knew that the movie would
surely make sense n it did...Its a good watch..Betta than
majority of the crap being served these days...
You insane dimwitted fool, mumbai attach seems like a drama
to you, had your family been in there amidst those
horrifying places had it been so gripping n entertaining
then also you birdbrain
Mr reviewer.
its a shame to compare the mumbai terror attacks to this
movie. For people like u these horrendous acts are just a
drama ! At a time when we need to get together and condemn
and do something about the situation ... U are comparing it
to a movie !! Big shame !!
So. Finally u have managed to & paid someone to write
gud things abt the review. What a shame!!! Grow up you so
called journalists & reviewers. Think something above
money & fame. Such a loosers u r. U seems to be the
biggest terrorists who are not even concerend abt feelings
of people in this hard time. Plz. Either u quit the channel
or shut down ur whole network.
Wow! What a critic!.. Shamelessly involving superstars to be
popular.. And worse.. This person have no respect for our
nation.
first of all, please have some knowledge of cinema. Btw i
have an advice for your carrier.. Try script writing for
indian award ceremonies like filmfare.
i m surprised.. How can buzz18 hire a stupid shameless
s****r like you. Tu saamne hota to tere kaan par 2 baja
deta..
Abhsihek mande, you should apologise if you have any sense
and shame left. Just because you have the power to write
don't write whatever comes to your sick mind. When you
review a film talk about the film. Btw, you do not even
possess the intelligence to review a film.
For the reviewer and everyone at network 18 -
what do u think that the 62 hour news coverage was
entertainment for you?? People like you should be thrown out
of journalism...If there was a court martial for journalism
you should be given one.
infact i am pretty sure that if buzz 18 continues to have
you , they would shut down.
i urge everyone who is reading this to e-mail the editor
in chief and let him know that network 18 should take strict
action gainst such people who work for them, possibly sack
them. This is the same company that runs cnn ibn and boasts
about ethical journalism. I think its a joke for them.
such insensivity can only be shown by someone who is not
an indian.
please stick to your job and that is to review movies.
