REVIEW: Rock On with Farhan Akhtar
A film about a bunch of friends who can do nothing but make music. Guys who come together, create 'Magik' only to be driven apart by their clashing ideologies, until time and tide brings them together for that one last time. The last hurrah!
That in a nutshell, is what Abhishek Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar's Rock On is all about. Reminds you of Dil Chahta Hai or Jhankaar Beats or for that matter any rocker film? My request to you would be, forget the comparison, sit back and let the music and the madness take over. Trust me, Rock On is a ride you will not regret taking.
What is the film about
Four friends, talented musicians, come together to form their amateur band, Magik. Luke Kenny (Rob), Farhan Akhtar (Aditya), Purab Kohli (KD) and Arjun Rampal (Joe) are a passionate bunch of people who are trying to get that big break which could change their lives, make good the sacrifices they have begun to make in their respective lives. But that so-called break commands a heavy price and that sees the end of Magik. Almost. A decade later, when things have not exactly turned out the way they hoped would be, they meet again. Thanks to the efforts of Aditya's wife Sakshi (Prachi Desai), who in spite of being married to him for four years, had no inkling about his past, his creative talent and his friends.
The music of Rock On has already hit the spot. And you have to watch the film to see how intelligently and sensitively the songs have been used for special moments, when words would never be adequate. There is a scene when Aditya's wife Sakshi comes back to her estranged husband, only to see him jamming once again with his rocker friends. It is a special moment, because for the first time in four years, she sees him smile, for the first time, he actually has let his guard down and welcomes her into his life, inviting her on his journey. She watches, smiling, as her husband sings with his old friends, the musician in him shining through the facade of a cut and dry investment banker for the very first time. And that's when one of the most beautiful love ballads in the film (Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein) takes over. The song about unending conversations, could not have been better timed.
Music Review: Rock On, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy!

Its a great movie...But the greatest flaw is that they dont
have a bass guitarist....And there is heaps of base in the
movie....So it simply fooled the audience in that field.
I like the whole idea about making movie!! All actor did
good job but de way arjun rampal is presented in de movie
basically his looks... Man he looks like true rockstar!!!
Thumbs up fro rock on!!!! Farhan!! Good job broo

bt i jst had 1 problem with the film
the pace was a bit too slow
Nice movie its like dil chahata hai but its good
the end can be much bigger i like the music of the film
too
Read the review here and then on rediff.... Which is a very
pasiionate and personal one.... Went for the film after
that. Must say the film is worth every star it has received
from the critics...
Awesom movie..After dil cha ta hai..Its a really rocking
movie..According to me really rock on rock mah day..
Prachi was awesomely beautiful. I want that hairstyle.
Rock on
Rock on is rocking. Surprise package was prachi-farhan
pairing. They have awesome chemistry. Prachi was so
endearing, only wished she had a bigger part but her part
was is important. Take a bow lady. Arjun was daaaa bomb.
I used to think he was a shitty actor but damm he surprised
me. Farhan was good too. The drummer dude was funny.
Where can i get a wife like sakshi (prachi)?
Can only agree with commenter akshay kale - akshay,
you're smarter than i was! I went hoping to find
something original, trailblazing, or at least halfway
decent. (hoping against all signals, but i'm like that
- serves me right i guess.) foiled (or should i say fooled?)
on all three counts. The movie is really bad, like being
deprived of oxygen and slipping into a coma, and then every
20-25 minutes they give you a breath of air so that you gasp
with pleasure and thank the movie for keeping you alive.
Total mindf**k.
i am also hating this trend of sloppily written, overly
sentimental, badly analyzed internet reviews. I can only
hope that people like chandrima are not being paid to write
reviews for this website... There are already more than
enough people in the media and entertainment business being
paid to s!@# on the heads of a trusting public. Shame on
you, reviewer! Much more shame than on the makers of this
turd, because they just make it, but it's people like
you who make us eat it. Shame.
