REVIEW: Saas Bahu Aur Sen Sex
It was all thanks to the censor certificate I realised that the title of the latest Farooque Sheikh-starrer was not Saas Bahu Aur Sensex but rather Saas Bahu Aur Sen Sex, with 'Sen' and 'Sex' being two separate words.
At the receiving end of this rather lame pun in the film is Kirron Kher who plays, a 50-something divorced Bengali woman called Binita Sen.
WATCH: The trailer of Saas Bahu Aur Sen Sex
Having separated from her husband, Binita moves to Mumbai with her not-so-approving daughter Nitya (Tanushree Dutta) for good. On the very first morning, a miffed Nitya sets out to a cyber café 'to look for a job'. Here, a friendly neighbour, Ritesh Jethmalani (Ankur Khanna) tells her of a miracle of modern India known as the 'Call Centre'.
That evening, Nitya returns home, with a job and a soft spot for Ritesh. But Ritesh in turn loves another neighbour, Kirti (Masumeh).
Meanwhile, Binita makes her way to a broker's office to sell some shares her father had purchased many years ago. The broker Sethna (Farooque Sheikh) brushes her off but on being chided agrees to help her. So against the backdrop of the Sensex touching 8,000 points, this rather tentative relationship between Sethna and Sen starts.
Between the two, they also get the other ladies of Binita's kitty party group hooked on to the share market. How the craze to make money changes the essential nature of these women forms the rest of the story.
READ: Tanushree casts doubt on director's abilities
Peppered with footage of Udayan Mukherjee from CNBC TV18, the film shows just how investing in the stock market has become a national pastime.
Indeed, the first half of the film is quite like the times we live in today – the general feel good factor prevails even though nothing really happens. The story doesn't go forward and the clichéd caricatures begin getting even more clichéd.
Even Farooque Sheikh's affable Parsi character gets to you as he manages to confuse between his crush (Mrs Sen) and his job (Sensex).

Will watch the movie tomm...
