There is a tendency in most of us to throw brickbats at people when they are down and out. And the ones at the receiving end are often unlucky enough to be in showbiz. In 2007 Ram Gopal Varma received more flak than what most people receive in a lifetime. RGV Ki Aag, Go, Nishabd, it seems the man could do nothing right. And industry insiders and critics were busy writing him off as a has-been. But RGV in the tradition of a true survivor has returned to prove his worth. Sarkar Raj may not set the box-office on fire but RGV is back in the running for now.

This genre of films about the underworld seems to be Ram Gopal Varma's forte. And Varma effectively demonstrates that he can effectively recreate a world, which the common man is quite cut off from. The director himself claims Sarkar Raj is not a sequel to Sarkar. For those who missed out on Sarkar the film is about the Nagre family, the patriarch Subash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan) only referred to as Sarkar, his son Shankar Nagre, who to all extents and purposes has taken over the business/ political/ mafia empire from his father Shankar nagre.

In this scenario enters Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) who is the daughter of a hotshot business tycoon. Her father Rajan (Victor Banerjee) wishes to put up a power plant in Maharashtra. Initially Sarkar is opposed to the project. But somehow Shankar manages to convince him that this project will change the lives of the people of Maharshtra.

Shankar now throws himself wholeheartedly into campaigning for this project. But nothing is what it appears to be. Just about everybody from the shady businessman Vohra to Subash's right hand man Chandar have their own stake in this scenario. A bloody battle ensues where human life has no value and the stakes get higher at each level. Sarkar does establish his supremacy eventually but pays the price for it…

Sarkar raj is no way near the class os sarkar. It is just
above average movie. Can anyone tell me what mrs ash
bachchan doing in this movie? Cooking food for cast n crew!

The movie brings the directorial genius out from rgv.
Clearly rgv has brilliantly carved out the characters....His
attention to story telling is superb. The human drama that
he has tried to create in the film is brilliant. Tight close
ups on important scenes and dialouges backed by brilliant
performances by the bacchans make this movie a worthy
watch..........Great to see rgv make a comeback

It's an ok movie. Amitabh bachchan's acting is
excellent. Abhishek is fine. Aishwariya's role is
extra, and her acting usual

Well i think it not soo good as above ctricts cliam.... I
think by director as ruined the movie by giving ashiwary
bigger role in movie.... ( for eg each now then wherever
abhishek goes she follows him...) just have screen presence
,,, second abhishek kiiling all gons with two body cards(
when rescuing somaji....) was also weak link .... Deputy cm
is killed ... Like as he is peon,,,, even after bomb blast
the security is so week ,,, ( i mean shankar shud not have
been killed.... I think ash will be real culprit if the
movie fails

Mindblowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is the only word that comes to mind!!!

no matter what media says - in print or on tv, no matter
what kind of reviews are written - in dailies, on the net or
even in mags, no matter what kind of ‘people’s
responses’ are shown on tv….. The movie is a
hard-hitting slap on the face of people making ‘tamasha’
in the name of movies, on people seeing ‘nautanki’ in
the name of films, on ‘reviewers’ writing craps in the
disguise of writing reviews!

fow quite some time now, i am seeing a totally partisan
& biased approach against the bachchans by those
attached to media/news/papers/mags…. They think that they
can impose their menial views on the broad mind of the
public in general…. No, fools! You cannot!!! You cannot
take one bit from the bachchans! They are a breed totally
different!

these reviewers/analysts/reporters can have the power of
their medium with them, they can mis-use this platform to
impose their two-bit minds on the general public, but they
will not succeed!

each of the three bachchans, along with a host of other
actors, have given a real stellar performance in sarkar raj!

hats off to all of you, guys!

this movie is what i call a movie with “substance”! It
is not something with some oft-repeated naach-gana &
some cheap nautanki…..

i think its high time indian audience started appreciating
class and started rejecting crass…..

Good movie. I would give 3 stars out of 5 stars. Though
aishwarya had little role in this movie, the acting of
abhishek and especially amitabh bacchan make this movie
"jhakkas". Can be watched once.

Well, i must say ..Rgv tried to wipe his infamous image from
the previous 2 encounters..... But, sarkar raj too, i must
admit is not likely to give any respite. The movie, tried to
take the bachchan's magnificent screen presence to do
this...However, for some reason aish was actually not
et'll required in the movie... A confused plot,
abhishek's not so required assassination ......I would
not recommend this movie for a second watch at 'll

The brilliance of the movie outclasses the critics who
nitpick instead of comment on the film itself. The move is
excellent and the performances are awesome. The camerawork
with the low angles is so consistent that it doesnt become
an eyesore and the background score amplifies the movie to
another level. Rgv is back and hope he stays here!
