REVIEW: Sorry Bhai is unbearable
Well, how do we describe Onir's latest film Sorry Bhai? It is supposed to be a romantic comedy that goes wrong at the very beginning...
The story revolves around a shy scientist Siddharth Mathur (Sharman Joshi) who visits Mauritius for his brother's (Sanjay Suri aka Harsh) engagement. Their mom (Shabana Azmi) seems least interested in attending the event as Harsh has decided to marry a girl against her wishes. However, Harsh makes Siddharth swear on their mom ('Maa kasam' which Siddharth takes quite seriously) requesting him to bring everyone along.
Interestingly this 'Maa kasam' plays a significant part in the film, which we shall come back to later.
Harsh is busy with his work all the time so Aliyah, his fiancée (Chitrangda Singh), takes it on her to make Harsh's family feel at home. She takes them around for a guided tour and is helped by Siddharth in her effort. Both Aaliyah and Siddharth spend much time together and feel attracted towards each other. Need we say more?!
Onir tries to cash in on Shabana and Boman's (who plays Harsh and Siddharth's dad) chemistry in Honeymoon Travels… especially recapturing their kissing scene in this one, and undoubtedly succeeds in doing so. The couple looks very much at ease together and come across as the only highpoint in the film.

Cant quite agree with your view / review. Your review gives
me a feeling as if everyday you are writing a review for
perfect 10 movies and this one just slipped in through the
hole.
well i liked the whole movie, great performance.
Whts wrong with you.. The movie was good..
You seriously didn't get the film or you didn't try to. If
you couldn't appreciate the fresh and sensitively handled
take or sibling love triangles, if you couldn't respect the
dignity with with the characters handle the subject, you
really were sitting with an agenda to criticise.
even the 'ma kasam' aspect, while it was quirky , was not
overdone like you portayed it to. Thankfully after reading
your false and misleading review, i went and double checked
with masand and am glad that i watched what was a wonderful
and refreshing movie.
critics have a responsibility to the art they review, you
clearly are shirking that responsibility and misleading
people who might depend on your review to make an opinion. I
am glad, i know better, wont be reading your reviews.
I don't think you got the film at all. Your review is
unbearable. And do you actually - being a critic et all -
think that a couple who kisses in one film is made to do
that in another to encash on a concept?! It would have been
silly on onir's part then to encash on a film that
didn't do too well.
i also think sanjay is never funny. He looks heartbroken
in the scene when he confronts chitrangda with the truth.
Didn't you watch that bit of the film?
I saw the film today and hit upon this review or may i call
it a sorry review which your esteemed critic has posted. Ok
, i liked the film and i do not agree with this reviewer coz
of these many reasons:
1) is kissing between two characters a copyright of any
film as mentioned in the review, pls view them as characters
first and then boman and shabana.
2) maa kasam also is not a patent of sholay as mentioned
or dharmendra's , hasnt the reviewer ever sweared.
3) who is claiming that they are all progressive and even
if they are if one swears on a mother , there are certain
emotions which can rule over other decision in life. Highly
insensitive of the the reviewer to mock that.
4) chitrangda was brilliant , pls see the scene she does
with shabana in the tent.
5) sanjay suri had a small part but was effective and did
not look funny at all in the confession scene.
well the list goes on, i think the reveiwer has missed the
whole point and probably has personal morality issues hence
hasnt like the film.
pls watch it , its modern with traditional values, good
cinema.
Great site ! ..
Movie was avg. 2/5 sharman was outstanding..Rest of the cast
was avg. Direction was 0/5 really poor. Music is decent but
onir has ruined them by shooting it himself.
Onir is a highly over-rated pompus talentless windbag...My
brother...Was novel..That is all ..It was a pathetic
movie...About his earlier dud bas ek pal..Less said the
better...
it is time the media stopped promoting such gas bags as
huge talent...
