REVIEW: U Me Aur Hum
It’s the season of actors turning directors. First we had Aamir Khan’s fabulous Taare Zameen Par and now it’s two-time-national award winning actor Ajay Devgan’s turn. Reportedly Sunny Deol is also donning the director’s hat once again with his forthcoming project Man. But back to this week’s new release U Me Aur Hum. It’s a special film for a number of reasons.
1. Ajay Devgan is making his directorial debut with a love story – quite unlike the films one associates him with.
2. Kajol returns to the silver screen two years after her 2005 hit Fanaa.
3. The real life couple of Ajay-Kajol makes yet another attempt at recreating some of their off-screen chemistry.
4. The promos give the impression of a story that spans decades as Kajol’s character is shown to take a mysterious turn.
So does U Me Aur Hum actually live up to all the hype?
What's the plot?
U Me Aur Hum is about a smooth talking psychiatrist Ajay (Devgan) who falls in love with a stewardess on a cruise liner. The girl in question Piya (Kajol) tries hard to resist Ajay’s advances, but falls for his charm as he woos her with everything from liquor chocolates to white lilies to salsa lessons. Turns out it was all part of a well thought out plan, as Ajay had laid his hands on Piya’s secret diary, to find out just exactly what were her likes and dislikes. A couple of songs and misunderstandings later Piya forgives Ajay and the two get married. Post marriage life’s a dream till Piya is diagnosed with a mental ailment. Her condition poses a dilemma for Ajay, who has to battle the conflicting emotions of the psychiatrist and husband within him.

Movie buffs are constantly working on making comparisons and
arriving at contrasts and similarities between movies and i
have my two cents to contribute here for you, me aur hum.
This ajay devgan directorial venture, reminiscent two
classic movies; one is khilona, and the other is bassera.
in khilona, mumtaz takes cares of a deranged sanjeev kumar
post shock, with utmost love and understanding; and this
besides a similar repeat shocking scene brings back sanjeev
kumar to his original self.
in shashi kapoor, rakhee, rekha starred bassera, rakhee
feigns insanity after recovery, but is detected by poonam
dhillon, a parallel to which is seen in you, me aur hum;
wherein kajol feigns forgetfulness and is detected by ajay
devgan.
the contrast from bassera here is that, whilst rakhee is
let to reside in the asylum, ajay gets his wife home and
gives kajol his unconditional love, care and understanding
to help her lead a normal life. To that extent the movie
conveys a positive message to the society that needs to be
appreciated.
I saw the movie on saturday. I quite agree with your views.
Being a nautical professional, i enjoyed the sequences on
the cruise liner.
A great film with great performances and locations.
a must watch for every one. Have a bit of patience and u
know it is worth it. Each scene takes ur heart away and
keeps u engrossed.
Awesome n excellent....The performnces of ajy n kajol are
just out of this world. N hats off to ajay his first
film....An action hero making a romantic mov which we havent
seen for a long time. Very sensibble, emotional. Not like oso
which is made to make money n fool the audience. This is
the mov ive been waiting to wacth......I used to admire ajay
but was never my fav actor but now i think i have to change
the priorities hez best at what he does .....Acting n
directing.I never expeced a mov like this from him. He mad
eme cry a few times it really touched my heart...Jus loved
it.......
An excellent theme has not received it's due. Photgraphy
& direction leave a lot to be wanted. Most of the scenes
are arround boozing and the actors are most of the time
shown to be on the 'high', the dialogues are without content
or depth, with a pretence to sound philosophical. The
supporting actors are stiff, and seem not to know why they
are there. Ajay is jaded. The only redeeming factor in the
film is off course kajol (only she needs to reduce her
weight)
A great and sensitive movie amust watch for anybody who has
loved anybody defines true love in an entertaining way
Yea! Kajol and ajay has great chemistry, biology, physics
and mathematics!!!!! What a great pair!
I never liked either kajol or ajay before u, me aur hum came
along. It is an excellent film with superlative performance
by all the actors. A very well put together movie and
definitely worth a watch.
Worst evr movie.....Slowest movie in the world
Nice love story...Ahi dekh k aaya...
