MUSIC REVIEW: Dead End
I hadn't heard trance music in a while and was quite excited when I got my hands on Dead End, the second album from Wizack Twizack. The 35-second Intro says something about ecstasy and Wizack Twizack gives the album a solid start with Welcome To Knutzby. This dark trance is excellent...dark yet something that won't have a limited audience. There are pleasant tunes layered over sharp beats. Intelligent and Multi Pressure are good tracks, while Lucky Strike is just alright. Somehow, Lucky Strike doesn't hold your attention the way the other songs do.
Hide The Gold could easily have been a fantastic album opener and Wizack Twizack gets back into the action with this one, following it up with the fabulous Reduced Signal. Purple Haze's intro goes 'Marijuana in your brain/takes more time to ejaculate'... how boringly cliched is it to use drug-related intros? It sounds even more lame because of the Bob Marley-styled vocals. The song isn't bad, though.
With The Explorer, Wizack Twizack starts getting in the dark mode again and Stereo Sushi has an intro that makes you sit up. My favourite from this CD is Razors And Ice Cream... great name, great track. I like Wizack Twizack's style of making music - he has hauntingly catchy tunes over great grooves and adds tremendous flavour by sprinkling effects in the most clever manner. With the many trance albums coming out, Wizack Twizack's Dead End proudly stands out. Fresh sounding psytrance with powerful melodies... one of the CDs you can take to Goa.
