MUSIC REVIEW: Dil Bole Hadippa

Ever since the colorful teaser promo released, Dil Bole Hadippa has been making the right noises. And Rani Mukerji's sizzling makeover has only taken the buzz around this Yash Raj film to a new high. Given the Punjabi flavour of the film, it's not surprising to see Pritam's name in the credits.

The title song is a peppy bhangra number that gets the formula right. Almost an extension of Mauja Hi Mauja, Mika does an assured job with this one. The remix only gets better with Sunidhi backing up Mika's energetic vocals. Since this is Rani's big bikini number, the glamorous music video more than ensures a chartbuster status for this track.

If the title track was rich in desi flavour, Discowale Khisko has doses of UK bhangra beats. It's got a catchy Jazzy B-RDB type sound to it. The tune however is a tad similar to Hans Raj Hans's Dil Chori Sada Ho Gaya. As expected the tempo is pumped up in a remix version. And if picturised well, this could be another party favourite in coming months.

Aditya Chopra's favourite words, Rab and Ishq finally make an appearance in Ishq Hai Rab Hai. It's the usual romantic duet that comes out sounding like a poor cousin of the Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi theme.

Bhangra Bistar unites Bollywood's item song specialists - Hard Kaur, Alisha Chinai and Sunidhi. So when you have the three of them in one number, there's bound to be a lot of fun. And while the tune is not instantly catchy it soon grows on you. There's a lot of Punjabi Hinglish and you can almost visualise Rani slipping into her lovable Bunty Babli act. This one's for the wedding sangeet.

Ever since Dil To Pagal Hai happened, aerobic studios and gyms have become a standard feature in YRF's movies. Gym Shim is a Dance Pe Chance meets Baari Barsi - that goes eighteen, nineteen... fit shit lean mean…sabko hai inviting. The beats could have been racier, but Gym Shim goes stays true to the feel of the album.

Verdict: Dil Bole Hadippa has less Pritam and more Yash Raj written all over it. Nothing out of the ordinary, but like most YRF albums it's the overall package that works.
