MUSIC REVIEW: Hastey Hastey is very Malik

The album is nice but quite forgettable

So, what does the soundtrack of the forthcoming film Hastey Hastey have to offer? Sunidhi Chauhan, Zubin of Gangster fame, Kunal Ganjawala, Shaan and a lot of Anu Malik.

The movie has 11 songs. Actually, six songs. The rest are all versions of those six songs. There's a happy and sad version of the song Hastey Hastey. There's a male, female and duet version of both New Age Mantra and Rock The World.

The songs are quintessential Anu Malik. Peppy Bollywood tunes with a dash of beats in them. The tunes are happy, light and danceable. Much like the zillion songs that Bollywood has created till date and which have been fast forgotten.

The title track, Hastey Hastey is probably the best of the lot. It's nice, chirpy and the lyrics do make a certain amount of sense. The next one Bheegi Bheegi is also good but can't be called one of the best by Kunal Ganjawala. When we hear Kunal, we automatically start expecting a little more, but this song definitely does not live up to it.

Zubin Garg is a fabulous singer, as we all know from the magic he created in Gangster. But Almadad sung by him in this album might just disappoint you. Zubin's voice has been wasted in it. It could well have been sung by anybody else and it would not have mattered at all.

The songs, Rock The World and New Age Mantra are repeated three times each. So, basically, after the sixth number, one can happily turn the player off. I mean, how much difference does it make if the song is being sung by a male or a female or both, considering the fact that the better part of both versions contains beats, electronic 'twangs' and, well, chorus?

There's not much to talk about the music of Hastey Hastey, really. There is nothing new, no exceptional lyrics (dirty or funny or even plain weird) and the singers though brilliant do not shine in the album per se. We have heard better ones from all of them.

There is nothing that'll stay back with you after you hear the album. It's a nice hear, but not striking enough.

Verdict: Songs come and go, some stay with you and some don't. Hastey Hastey's songs are of the latter variety. If you happen to buy the soundtrack, the only impression the audio CD will leave, will be on your pocket.
