MUSIC REVIEW: Khall Balli
Music composers should come with a warning - the CD cover or inlay should state exactly what kind of an audience the music is aimed at, for even though we all can listen, we hear different things, and music speaks to each of us in a unique way.
With an album like Khall Balli, you don't know if Sajid-Wajid are making music for Salman Khan fans or if they're trying to give Himesh Reshammiya sleepless nights by composing music that you will hear being blasted only in autorickshaws.
The title track begins with an Eastern feel, and then becomes the usual Sajid-Wajid fare, with Wajid singing with Neeraj Sridhar. Neither the lyrics or music are anything to get excited about, though the music gets interesting for about 2-3 seconds at some point.
Zhala Menu Zhala (help!) has Maharashtrian-style modern music and lyrics in Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi and English, and if Wajid's vocals don't do it for you, there's a bleating goat on this one. As if to show they mean business, there's guitar distortion that lasts a few seconds to let us know Sajid-Wajid need us to take this song seriously.
Neeraj Sridhar woos Sunidhi Chauhan on Bhuri Bhuri, and this sounds a whole lot better than the goat's duet with Wajid. There's good bass on this, and I don't even mind the rapping. Bhuri Bhuri is a good composition, but the guy who's rapping says 'brown-eyed girl' towards the end, and bhuri means 'light-eyed'!
Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai, sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Shadab Sabri and AD Boyz is a very good song! Good lyrics too... this song is such a change from what we get to hear Sajid-Wajid do. This is very listenable, despite being slightly long.
Zari Ki Kurtiyan, oh no! Sounds like Sajid-Wajid didn't use a song for God Tussi Great Ho and inserted it on this CD, instead! Khadija Haider is alright, and even Udit Narayan cannot save this song, which is weakened by Sajid-Wajid's typical music, and destroyed by the lyrics. Terrible!
Fbm.com has remixed Bhuri Bhuri and Khall Balli, and both the remixes are way better than the original versions.
Sajid-Wajid have delivered yet another mediocre musical score, and despite the path-breaking event of Wajid's collaboration with the goat, the music of Khall Balli will not be remembered a few weeks from now.
RATING: 1.5/5
