MUSIC REVIEW: Life Partner

By now most movie buffs would have checked out a hilarious promo that has Genelia crooning Kuke Kuke. The movie in question is a multistarrer comedy Life Partner. Giving Genelia company are, Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kpaoor and Prachi Desai. Pritam, who is a regular with these 'leave your brains home' comedies composes his trademark tunes for this one.

The album expectedly opens with Kuke Kuke. The catchy hook that's been sung in an irritatingly nasal tone (Genelia plays a bad singer in the film) is sure to be a riot on screen. An energetic dance number, it instantly grips you. With its lively picturisation and foot tapping beats, Kuke Kuke sounds like a surefire hit.

Gunji Angna is a folk inspired dandiya-raas like track. This must be to do with Tusshar and Prachi, who play a Gujarati couple in the film. Though the song is no great shakes, Sunidhi does a neat job at keeping the tempo of the song with her lively singing. Her voice is the sole asset of yet another club number Poorza Poorza. She's done a zillion of these sensuous disco songs - but never fails to disappoint.

But the same can't be said about Aage Aage. It's an extremely average, predictable track with nothing new in terms of sound or singing. Despite being credited to multiple singer, Aage Aage makes no impact.

Teri Meri Zindagi is a light hearted romantic duet. The breezy number doesn't appeal immediately. But after hearing it a couple of times, the tune kind of grows on you. Lead singer Soham however has a major Shaan hangover throughout the song.

Pritam is a man of extremes. If he can touch new highs with a Love Aaj Kal – he can even belt out something as routine as Life Partner. But then given the comic graph of the film, one didn't really expect anything unconventional.

Verdict: Life Partner is a peppy album with a couple of average tracks. Kuke Kuke merits repeat listening but other tracks are not great.
